Two youths charged with multiple property offences in Dubbo – Operation Regional Mongoose

Two youths have been charged following an investigation into multiple break-ins in that state’s Central West.

Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime, committed predominately by young offenders.

Officers attached Orana Mid-Western Police District commenced investigations following reports of multiple business’ broken into on Myall, Bourke, Darling Street, and Windsor Parade, where a silver Kia Optima was used, just after 1am on Sunday 18 August 2024.

Checks reveal the Kia was allegedly stolen from a home on Young Street, Dubbo, between 1.30pm on Friday 16 August 2024 and 7am on Saturday 17 August 2024.

The Kia was located abandoned on Collins Avenue, Dubbo, about 7am on Monday 19 August 2024, and was seized for forensic examination.

About 11.50am yesterday (Wednesday 28 August 2024), police were in Illoura Street, Dubbo, for an unrelated matter when they sighted two youths on a motorbike without helmets.

When the youths attempted to ride the motorbike on a footpath the pair lost control and jumped off before they fled on foot.

A short time later, they were both arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station.

During a search of the two boys police allegedly located car keys, and cannabis.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with;

  • Be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner
  • Agg B&E dwelling etc in company steal (four counts)
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (two counts)
  • Possess prohibited drug (two counts), and
  • Breach of bail.

A 12-year-old boy was charged with;

  • Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • Aggravated break and enter dwelling in company intend steal
  • Armed with intent commit indictable offence
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, and
  • Breach of bail.

Both boys were refused bail to appear at a Children’s Court today (Thursday 29 August 2024.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District will continue inquiries under Operation Regional Mongoose.
