UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances to review Morocco, Norway and Ukraine

GENEVA – The (CED) will hold its upcoming session from 23 September to 4 October, during which it will review Morocco, Norway and Ukraine.

The session will begin with a public meeting, including a space of tribute to victims of enforced disappearance, featuring a testimony from the wife of disappeared Laotian activist Sombath Somphone.

Morocco, Norway and Ukraine are among the to the . They are required to undergo a review of their initial report by the Committee of 10 independent international experts on how they are implementing the Convention and thereafter as needed.

The Committee, which has received respective country reports and other submissions from non-governmental organisations, will discuss a range of issues with the three State delegations through public dialogues on the following dates at Geneva time:

Ukraine

23 September 15:00 – 18:00

24 September 10:00 – 13:00

Morocco

24 September 15:00 – 18:00

25 September 10:00 – 13:00

Norway

25 September 15:00 – 18:00

26 September 10:00 – 13:00

The Committee will also analyse 1,043 cases from 30 countries that have been registered under the urgent action procedure and examine one individual complaint.

The experts will hold meetings with relatives of forcibly disappeared people, State representatives, civil society groups and other stakeholders to exchange information on individual cases, structural issues and challenges related to enforced disappearances.
