GENEVA – The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to development, Surya Deva, will visit Honduras from 11 to 21 November 2024.
Deva will assess the country’s efforts to contribute to the promotion, protection and fulfilment of the right to development and realising the Sustainable Development Goals.
He will also identify how the Government ensures effective participation of people in development-related policies, programmes and projects. The Special Rapporteur will provide recommendations to the Government for strengthening its legislation, policies and practices in line with the 1986 Declaration on the Right to Development and other relevant standards.
Deva will visit and hold meetings in Tegucigalpa, Choluteca, La Paz, La Ceiba, Roatan and San Pedro Sula.
He will hold a press conference on 21 November from 11:30 am at the Hyatt Hotel Tegucigalpa, Avenida La Paz, Paseo los Proceres, 11101 Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Access will be strictly limited to journalists.
The expert will present a report on the country visit to the UN Human Rights Council in September 2025.
