An unaccompanied learner driver has been charged with high-range drink-driving after being stopped by police south of Coffs Harbour.
About 5.20pm yesterday (Friday 24 December 2021), officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting stationary speed enforcement duties on the Pacific Highway at Bonville, when they observed a white SUV travelling northbound above the sign posted speed limit.
Officers stopped the driver – a 51-year-old man – who was subjected to a roadside breath test and allegedly returned a positive result.
He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station, where he underwent a secondary breath analysis and returned an alleged reading of 0.166.
The man was charged with high-range PCA, unaccompanied learner, and speeding.
He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Friday 7 February 2022.
The Coffs Harbour man’s learner’s permit and number plates were confiscated.
