Unaccompanied learner driver charged after pursuit near Parramatta, NSW

An unaccompanied learner driver will appear in court today charged by Strike Force Raptor operatives following a police pursuit near Parramatta.

About 1.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 10 November 2020), officers attached to the Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor Highway were conducting proactive patrols along the M4 Motorway at Granville, when they attempted to stop the driver of a white Mercedes AMG.

It will be alleged the driver accelerated from police, reaching speeds of 190km/hr in a signposted 90km/hr zone, before stopping in traffic at the intersection of the Great Western Highway at May Hills.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Granville Police Station.

The Mercedes and a mobile phone were seized and will undergo further examination.

The Baulkham Hills man was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester and learner driver not display “L” plates as prescribed.

The man was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Wednesday 11 November 2020).
