Research developments across irrigation, pasture and food safety, and how they support the State’s agricultural and food sectors, are among this year’s attractions at Agfest.
The University of Tasmania is again partnering with event organisers, joining more than 700 exhibitors for Tasmania’s largest agricultural and machinery field days.
The University will host a number of demonstrations, hands-on activities and interactive displays from its various colleges, institutes and centres, including the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) and the Australian Maritime College (AMC).
Among this year’s attractions, visitors can find out how courses such as agribusiness, fermentation science or sensors and automation can enhance your business with staff from the University College on site to provide information on various Associate Degree options.
Highlights this year include:
- Take advantage of receiving a free health check at the HealthStop Tent. Students studying medicine, nursing, paramedics, exercise science, pharmacy and nutrition will be on hand with numerous activities on offer including the opportunity to make hand cream
- Talk with a scientist to find out the latest research developments in soil, pasture, wine, cherries and more, with TIA also offering a number of activities including soil testers and dehydrated fruit samples. TIA will be on site in collaboration with the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE), exhibiting the innovative research across irrigation, pasture, horticulture and food safety which supports the State’s agricultural and food sectors
