Council is waiting for final approvals from the NSW Government for the Rifle Range Road upgrade project and once received, work will start as soon as possible.
Because the project involves work on Lismore Road which is a major regional road, special permits need to be in place from Transport for NSW.
“We are hoping to get the go-ahead shortly and the good news is that everything from our end is ready to go so we will be able to literally hit the ground running,” Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services, said.
“This is a major project with a budget of $2.9 million and the aim is to make the intersection with Rifle Range Road and Lismore Road a lot safer for drivers and pedestrians.
“There is no doubt that this project has been on the books for a long time and there have been some long delays associated with COVID, the floods and increases in the cost of materials,” Mr Holloway said.
When work starts the intersection of Rifle Range Road will be closed to all traffic except for buses (including school buses) and emergency services. The reasons for this are so:
- The road can be raised.
- The intersection can be rebuilt.
- The installation of culverts under Lismore Road.
Detours will be in place via Raftons Road (Keith Street or Leslie Street) and Lismore Road will remain open during the works.
This project is funded by the Federal Government, NSW Government and Council.
