The University of Tasmania’s participation in the 2024 national University Basketball League (UBL) season kicks off on Wednesday March 27, when the women’s and men’s teams meet Sunshine Coast University at the new South East Stadium in Sorell.
The University’s teams got off to a flying start last year by making the UBL finals in their first year in the competition.
“The standard is very high and being in this competition is providing a pathway to the NBL for our players,” the University’s Sport Operations Manager, Anthony Jusup, said.
“We made a great start last year and this year is looking just as exciting.”
The University of Tasmania teams consist entirely of students studying a variety of degrees, from Architecture, to Business, Education, Medicine and Exercise and Sport Science. The University teams are active in the Swisher Hoops Academy, and are an exciting and highly competitive component of Tasmania’s JackJumpers-inspired basketball scene.
The UBL season consists of a nine-week roster and four of those games will be played in Tasmania for both the men and the women. UBL is a national competition consisting of 14 universities from across Australia.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to pursue dual pathways as they balance their studies and elite level sport,” Mr Jusup said.
