UNITAR and Hiroshima Prefecture to Hold Virtual Conference: Leveraging FinTech for the Economy and Climate Change

Geneva, Switzerland / Hiroshima, Japan – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in partnership with Hiroshima Prefecture, will host a virtual conference “FinTech Ecosystem: Leveraging its impact in the economy and climate change”.

The virtual conference will take place on 20 March 2023, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Geneva time (CET; UTC+1), and will focus on three thematic areas: FinTech in Development Practice, FinTech and Cybersecurity, and FinTech and Ecology.

The panellists will explore how to improve development practice and policy in these three thematic areas so that society can benefit from the connectedness offered by digitalization and FinTech.

    The conference will discuss global-led solutions to the following questions:

    • What are the lessons learned and best practices for integrating FinTech solutions in development practice?
    • How can FinTech support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?
    • How can FinTech be leveraged to assist in development practice and assist in vulnerable communities?
    • What security concerns are associated with FinTech?
    • How can different stakeholders respond/mitigate these concerns?
    • What are the impacts of FinTech on energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions?
    • Can FinTech help us achieve global goals to combat climate change?

    High-level panellists from academia, international organizations and governments, among others, will discuss ways in which FinTech can be harnessed by countries for their development and support the achievement of the SDGs.

    Confirmed speakers are from Deloitte, George Mason University, World Economic Forum, United Nations Environment Programme, Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, EthicHub, and Griffith University.
