Geneva, Switzerland ― UNITAR recently signed a new partnership agreement with the , a non-profit organization based in Rwanda, for a collaborative project on value-based healthcare (VBHC).
The , established in 2021 by UNITAR, in collaboration with the Global Surgery Foundation and Takeda, aims to improve patient outcomes through the integration of VBHC approaches.
The collaborative work between UNITAR and UGHE will focus on enhancing surgical care systems for breast cancer management. Breast cancer was the second most commonly occurring cancer worldwide in 2022, and is the leading cause of non-communicable disease deaths in women. Most cases will require surgical intervention.
The being implemented in Rwanda focus on furthering our understanding of breast cancer patient outcomes at Butaro Cancer Centre of Excellence, potential gaps in surgical care training for the treatment of breast cancer across Rwanda, and stigma related to breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
We look forward to working with our Rwandan colleagues on building capacity in breast cancer surgical care.
