On the occasion of Universal Health Coverage Day , on Thursday, 12 December 2024, the WHO Office at the United Nations hosted a reception under the theme on financial protection. Participants heard remarks from the Permanent Representatives of Thailand and Georgia about the importance and benefits of investing in UHC. They highlighted efforts in their respective countries to protect populations, especially the most vulnerable from impoverishing health spending. The event also featured remarks from the Permanent Representative of Barbados (on behalf of the co-facilitators of the High-level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)) who offered lessons learned from the negotiation process of the political declaration on AMR and offered suggestions for the negotiation of the political declaration for the upcoming High-level meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) in 2025 . Werner Obermeyer, Director of the office, welcomed the participants and highlighted the critical importance of primary health care in ensuring universal health coverage.
