Unlawful use of motor vehicle and robbery charges at Townsville

Five juveniles have been charged in relation to number of alleged robberies in Townsville yesterday (July 24).

Police will allege at approximately midday the occupants of a stolen white Hyundai Accent attempted to rob a 32-year-old woman of her red Subaru Impreza on Elizabeth Street, Aitkenvale.

The 32-year-old woman was allegedly kicked and punched by two youths, sustaining minor injuries. The youths fled in the stolen Hyundai Accent.

It will be further alleged the same Hyundai steered another motorist off the road on Hudson Street, Kirwan at approximately 2pm, with a girl stopping the 42-year-old driver and attempting to rob her of the vehicle with an unknown sharp object.

The girl was unsuccessful and the 42-year-old woman drove away without injury.

It will be further alleged occupants of the same Hyundai stole a handbag from an elderly woman outside an Aitkenvale shopping centre a short time later.

Police will also allege the group entered a Kirwan shopping centre carpark and stole an idle Toyota Rav4.

The owner had left the vehicle running while his 14-year-old remained in the car.

The group of youths allegedly threatened to assault the 14-year-old boy and stole the vehicle when the boy exited it. The boy was physically unharmed.

The white Hyundai was later found discarded on Halliday Street, Kirwan.

The stolen Rav4 was found abandoned on Seaward Crescent, Pallarenda at 5.00pm.

Police patrolling the Bundock Street, Belgian Gardens area following the location of the stolen Rav4, arrested five youths after a pursuit on foot.

A 14-year-old Condon girl was charged with one count of unarmed robbery and two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle.

A 15-year-old Condon boy was charged with one count each of unarmed robbery, evasion, and two counts each of unlawful use of motor vehicle and driving whilst unlicenced.

A 15-year-old Condon girl was charged with two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and a drug offence.

A 15-year-old Kelso girl was charged with one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count of stealing.

A 16-year-old Cranbrook girl was charged with one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle and two counts of stealing.

They have been remanded in custody and will appear before Townsville Childrens Court today.
