Police have charged five teenage boys after a member of the public confronted them in a stolen vehicle in Cairns yesterday afternoon.
It will be alleged on Wednesday, June 22 a Mazda CX-3 station wagon was stolen from a Cairns North address.
Around 3:40pm on Thursday, police received a report that the vehicle had been sighted stopped in a line of stationary traffic on Scott Street at Bungalow.
It will be further alleged that two members of the public attempted to remove the occupants from the stolen vehicle, and that a scuffle occurred before all five juveniles fled the scene.
Police arrived on scene a short time later and with information from members of the public took all five juveniles into custody.
A 17-year-old Westcourt boy has been charged with ten counts of stealing, five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, four counts of unlicenced driving and one count each of possession of a knife in a public place, fraud and burglary.
A 15-year-old Bentley Park boy has been charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of unlicenced driving and stealing.
Both will appear in the Cairns Childrens Court today.
A 15-year-old Edmonton boy has been charged with six counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary, two counts of unlicenced driving and one count of stealing.
A 16-year-old Edmonton boy has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of burglary, assault, receiving tainted property and stealing.
Both will appear in the Cairns Childrens Court on June 29.
A 16-year-old Gordonvale boy will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act for one count of unlawful use or a motor vehicle.
