Unleash your creativity and connect across generations at Our Library

Art has the remarkable ability to go beyond age barriers and connect people from different generations. Mornington Peninsula Libraries’ new Intergenerational Art Program aims to give individuals a way to connect, learn, and inspire one another through creative expression.

Whether you are a seasoned artist or a complete beginner, this program invites you to explore your creativity. Each participant can act as a teacher, mentor, or even grandparent/grandchild to those who may not have that tie at home.

Intergenerational art programs actively involve both older adults and younger generations (7-13 years). They work by helping participants to break down barriers and discover common ground through the universal language of art.

By joining in, you’ll not only learn different artistic techniques, but you’ll make new social connections, have fun, and share valuable life lessons about resilience, adaptability and the importance of community.

Our Intergenerational Art Program is funded by the Shire’s Positive Ageing budget and is just one of many programs offered by the Shire to engage our older community, helping reduce social isolation, and improve health and wellbeing.

So, if you are over 55 and would love to get creative with young people, share your wisdom, and expand your social circle and artistic skills – join us for our monthly sessions at Mornington, Rosebud and Hastings.

Numbers are limited so bookings are essential.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Simon Brooks:

“Our Libraries have evolved to offer much more than books, and initiatives like our Intergenerational Art Program are a great example of this.

“If you’re over 55 and looking for a new experience, I encourage you to sign up. You won’t regret it!”
