Unlicensed in Oakleigh

Police observed a vehicle travelling along Princes Highway and noticed the driver and front seat passenger smoking with a child in the back seat.

The car was pulled over and checks were conducted on the driver who turned out to be a 15-year-old unlicensed teenage girl.

The teenager’s mother was the front seat passenger.

The Mulgrave teen has had her mum’s car impounded and will be charged on summons with driving without a permit.

Earlier in the night Moorabbin Highway Patrol officers pulled over a P plater on Dendy Road in Brighton after the driver hit a curb turning the corner.

The male driver returned an evidentiary breath test of .160 and had his car impounded.

He will be charged on summons with drink driving offences.

These detections form part of Operation Nexus, a five day high visibility road policing operation over the Easter long weekend.

The state-wide operation will focus on country road users, speed, impaired drivers, seatbelts, on and off road motorcycles, fatigue due to long distance travel and driver distraction through mobile technology and navigation devices.

Priority areas include traffic corridors that link metropolitan areas to popular holiday destinations such as the Grampians, Surf Coast, Great Ocean Road, Greater Shepparton Area, Phillip Island, Bass Coast, South Gippsland, Baw Baw and La Trobe.

Operation Nexus will run from 12.01am on Thursday 18 April to 11.59pm on Monday 22 April 2019.
