UNOSAT: 20 years of operations leading to UN Satellite Centre

Geneva, Switzerland – Since 2001, has been providing satellite imagery-based solutions and capacity development to UN funds, programmes, specialized agencies and Member States in support of the achievement of sustainable development. In 2021, the United Nations Economic and Social Council approved a resolution recognizing UNOSAT as the United Nations Satellite Centre. This event is an opportunity to recall the wide range of UNOSAT’s activities over the last two decades, from peace and security mapping, to geospatial analysis for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and building climate resilience.

On Thursday 25th November 2021, UNOSAT is celebrating the 20 years of operations leading to become the United Nations Satellite Centre with an online event. We will hear about the early days of UNOSAT and will recall the challenges and achievements of the past two decades. Operational partners will then share their experience working with UNOSAT, from imagery to impact. This event will highlight past and ongoing achievements on the application of space technology, as well as identify further opportunities to enhance our services to Member States and UN entities in analysis and capacity development for disaster management and sustainable development.
