Upcoming maintenance to keep our sporting fields at their best

Kempsey Shire Council

Our local sporting season is set to kick off on fields that are in prime condition! With a few improvements, these spaces will soon offer a lush, even surface, making them safer and more enjoyable for everyone—from seasoned athletes to budding sports stars.

This work ensures that the community has access to quality facilities that everyone can be proud of, setting the stage for a great season filled with energy and excitement.

Between Monday, 16 December to 20 December (weather permitting), we’ll have professional contractors out on five of our sports fields for essential maintenance.

From aeration to top dressing and scarifying, these treatments will help the grass grow stronger and healthier, making the fields more resilient and comfortable for all our local sports stars.

Here’s what’s coming up:

  • Aeration Works on Smithtown, Dangar 1, Verge 1, and South Kempsey/Jim Stirling fields.
  • Top Dressing on Verge 1, Smithtown, and Dangar 1 fields to create a smooth, even surface.
  • Scarifying on Verge 2 and 3 fields to keep the grass in peak playing condition.

Steve Pellen, Coordinator of Parks Projects, shares why this work is so important: “We’re committed to providing our community with sports fields and parks that don’t just meet the mark but exceed it. A well-maintained field means everyone can enjoy their sport safely and fully, and that’s something we’re proud to support.”

Thank you to everyone in advance for your patience while we make these improvements. We apologise for any inconvenience, but rest assured, this is all part of our commitment to maintaining excellent community facilities.

If the weather decides to lend a hand, we’ll have it all done on schedule, but a few days’ delay may happen if Mother Nature has other plans!

We appreciate your understanding, and we can’t wait to unveil your refreshed, revitalised fields just in time for a fantastic sporting season!
