Update 5 – Operation Romeo Masking: Tallebudgera homicide investigation

Police have arrested two men in relation to the murders of 36-year-old Shane Ross and 47-year-old Cameron Martin at Tallebudgera in October last year.

Following extensive investigations, detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and the Homicide Investigation Unit charged a 42-year-old man and 34-year-old man with two counts of murder with a ‘serious organised crime’ circumstance of aggravation and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The two men, both from Coolangatta, will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.

An arrest warrant has also been issued for a 31-year-old man, currently in custody in New South Wales, for two counts of murder with a ‘serious organised crime’ circumstance of aggravation and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The investigative team have been extensively working on the investigation since Cameron Martin was located deceased in his white 2015 Mercedes Benz C200 around 9.30pm on Friday October 18. This vehicle had crashed into a tree off Tallebudgera Creek Road.

Subsequent investigations indicate that Mr Martin sustained a puncture wound to his chest, shortly before the crash.

Around 1.30pm on Sunday October 21, 2019, 36-year-old Shane Ross was located deceased in bushland on the corner of the Pacific Highway and Tallebudgera Creek Road.

Regional Crime Coordinator for the South Eastern Police Region Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said it was a complex and difficult investigation.

“It will be alleged the murders were premeditated involving significant planning by the alleged offenders who are senior members of the Lone Wolf OMCG,” Detective Superintendent Smith said.

“The work completed by the investigative team demonstrates the Queensland Police Service’s commitment to solving complex crimes stretching over multiple jurisdictions.

“These were vicious and premediated crimes we will allege were carried out by an organised crime gang.

“Public information has been critical to solving the matter and bringing closure to the victims’ families.

“To this end, we continue to call for public information to ensure all persons connected to these crimes face the consequences of their actions.”
