Major flooding is still occurring in the declared disaster area at Burketown and surrounds and flood waters remain subject to change.
Inundation of the Burketown township has receded, but the immediate area remains still surrounded by water with access only possible by helicopter.
Monitoring of water heights of the area continues as this record flood moves through the Georgina Catchment.
Planning for the repatriation of evacuated residents is underway, and is expected to commence in coming days, on a case by case basis where circumstances are safe.
Today also saw the changeover of extra police supplied to Burketown on a rotational basis.
Police from across the Mount Isa District are volunteering to fly into Burketown to help with the recovery efforts and support community safety.
Mount Isa District Disaster Coordination Centre (DDCC) are working to ensure all affected communities have support is available to them, with several air assets, including the RACQ Life Flights AW139 helicopter, stationed nearby on standby 24/7 for emergencies and essential supplies.
If residents are concerned, they are encouraged to contact their local police or shire council offices and police thank local media for their support.
