UPDATE: 2.30pm Thursday 1 August
While there is no current risk to life or property large seas and swells have caused erosion issues, particularly in the Jimmys Beach area at Hawks Nest.
The Boulevarde between Kururma Crescent and Gaya Street has been impacted which has seen parts of the road damaged.
Power and sewage services were briefly interrupted.
MidCoast Council crews and Essential Energy staff worked quickly to restore services.
The Boulevarde between Kururma Crescent and Gaya Street will remain closed until the weather abates and a full damage assessment can be carried out.
At this stage there are no concerns for the Manning Point and Old Bar Beach areas however the situation will be closely monitored.
Council is currently reaching out to the Reconstruction Authority, Transport for NSW and NSW Public Works.
Once the immediate situation abates, Council will undertake scheduled sand replenishment of Jimmys Beach, which is designed to buffer the area from events such as these.
31 July
MidCoast beaches in the Old Bar and Jimmys Beach areas are closed due to large waves, storm surges and elevated sea levels.
Due to current weather conditions the coastal areas are experiencing excess erosion, inundation and instability resulting in a number of closures until further notice.
More closures could follow including roads with authorities expecting high seas overnight.
Of particular concern is Jimmys Beach, Old Bar and Manning Point due to the direction of the swells.
MidCoast Council staff will closely monitor these vulnerable areas including the Boulevarde at Hawks Nest. The Boulevarde is already closed to traffic due to erosion from Tuesday night.
With more high tides and strong seas expected overnight MidCoast Council urges residents and visitors to stay away from these hotspots and to enact caution around any of the region’s coastal areas as weather conditions can change fast.
