The City of Ryde is pleased to provide an update for the community on essential work that is currently being undertaken in the Meadowbank area.
The work is detailed and ongoing and we appreciate your patience with any disruptions as it continues.
In the interests of transparency, Council will erect signage at the following sites during July, with QR codes that will provide real-time updates on progress.
The work areas are:
Pedestrian detour at Constitution Road
The footpath on the northern side northern side of Constitution Road between Bowden Street and See Street was closed on the advice of geotechnical engineers after heavy rain and storm events in late February/early March 2022 caused rock falls, impacting pedestrian safety.
A pedestrian detour, with information signage at both ends, was put into place on the northern and southern sides of Constitution Road. The pedestrian crossing at the western end of Constitution Road and Bowden Street intersection was moved to improve safety in late December 2022.
The affected footpath remains closed as Council investigates the option of constructing a 1m walkway on the southern side of Constitution Road from Bowden Street to Railway Road. To achieve this, the bridge abutment – which is a rock face abutment – is required to be cut back. Due to the specialised nature of this work, Council has undertaken a thorough assessment of the tenders submitted and is in the process of finalising the tender evaluation report.
Until these works are completed, the current detours will remain in place.
Constitution Road traffic light installation and retaining wall
Council is planning to upgrade Constitution Road from Ann Thorn Park to Angas Street Bridge.
This work includes the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Constitution Road and Bowden Street and associated road upgrades as well as the design and construction of a retaining wall on the north of Constitution Road between Bowden Street and See Street.
These works are vital for improving the capacity to the road and related infrastructure to the area.
A services investigation determining the level of impact of the proposed design on utilities has been completed, as has a detailed costing assessment.
Council is currently preparing the tender documentation for engaging design consultants to undertake the engineering design for the proposed works.
Stormwater drainage work at Hedgeland Close
Council is currently undertaking stormwater drainage and road works in Hedgeland Close, which is situated in front of an apartment complex at 146 Bowden Street.
These works are part of Council’s Stormwater Improvement Program and involve improvements to the existing underground and surface drainage, as well as provision of a turning area at the end of Hedgeland Close.
Protective works on existing and underground utilities including an oil pipeline, sewer main and gas main have been completed, as well as the reconfiguration of the underground drainage, street lighting changes, and continuation of the gabion wall between the upstream channel and the shared user path.
Upcoming work includes road works, reconstruction of the shared user path, and associated landscaping.
