Yarra City Council has developed some suggested road treatments for the Alphington Study area, which address the safety concerns the community raised last year.
In July and August of 2023, we asked for your feedback to help us understand what types of road safety issues might need addressing within the Alphington Study area.
Some of the things you told us include:
- Pedestrian safety is important, especially during school times.
- Traffic congestion is a big issue as it can lead to frustrated drivers and poor driving behaviour.
- Cycling safety is important as cars and bikes are frequently sharing the road space.
- Speeding vehicles are a big issue as there are a lot of vulnerable road users in the area.
- Community involvement in the planning is essential.
- Heidelberg Road is a barrier to access and safe movement for all road users.
We’ve used what we heard alongside an evidence-based road safety review to help us identify locations where there are higher risks of conflicts between different types of road users.
This has then enabled us to develop some suggested changes to the street network aimed at addressing the road safety concerns you have raised. These are known as “treatments”.
We’re now inviting the community to tell us what you think about each of the suggested treatments and how supportive you are of their implementation.
We’ll use this feedback to inform how or whether we should proceed with these treatments within the next stages of the study. This feedback will also support the development of a final Road Safety Plan.
