Upgrades to come for Phillip St pedestrian crossing, Thirroul – Wollongong

We’re sharing information with our community on planned upgrades for the pedestrian crossing on Phillip Street, Thirroul in front of Ryan’s Hotel.

Next year, we’ll carry out a range of upgrades to the crossing – including turning the existing pedestrian crossing into a raised crossing – to improve accessibility, visibility and lighting for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers who share the road.

“Council has a commitment to building a safe, connected and accessible network of pedestrian routes throughout our local government area,” Director Infrastructure + Works Joanne Page said.

“This particular crossing at Phillip Street is a high-traffic and pedestrian area which sees a lot of people travelling to and from the local school and businesses. By carrying out these upgrades we’ll be able to improve driver and pedestrian visibility and make it easier for people to safely cross the road.”

The proposed works on the Phillip Street pedestrian crossing will include:

  • Construction of a raised pedestrian crossing at Phillip Street
  • Construction of new kerb ramps and concrete blisters
  • Construction of a short stretch of footpath at the intersection of Lawrence Hargrave Drive and Phillip Street
  • New line marking on the road
  • Installation of signage
  • Improved street lighting.
