The latest round of the Andrews Labor Government’s Metropolitan Health Infrastructure Fund is now open, giving communities across Melbourne access to the world-class healthcare they deserve, close to home.
Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas today announced submissions are open for the third round of the Metropolitan Health Infrastructure Fund (MHIF), with more than 60 health services and agencies across Melbourne eligible for a share of $40 million funding.
MHIF provides funding for construction, remodeling, replacement and refurbishment projects, equipment, information and communication technology and other vital upgrade works to expand capacity, improve patient amenity, and enhance safety and infection prevention and control measures.
Established by the Labor Government in 2020, the Victorian Budget 2023/24 invested an additional $40 million in the popular program – now worth more than $265 million, the MHIF has funded 72 projects across metropolitan Melbourne to date.
MHIF previously funded $1.4 million for Monash Medical Centre to upgrade and expand the Maternity Clinic so they can provide better access to prenatal care services for expectant mums.
MHIF also funded more than $4.3 million for surgical services upgrade at Moorabbin Hospital including refurbishment of six operating theatre suites to continue getting Victorians the surgery they need, sooner.
Funding also enables health services and agencies to adopt new technologies and deliver contemporary models of care, improving the quality and safety of care for patients and staff.
The Labor Government continues to invest in improvements to Victoria’s health services – in addition to MHIF, the Victorian Budget 2023/24 invested $320 million in the Hospital Infrastructure Delivery Fund – kickstarting planning, development and land acquisition for new and upgraded hospitals across the state.
