UQ researchers named among the world’s most influential

Twenty-seven University of Queensland researchers have been named in a prestigious 2018 Highly Cited Researchers List – with one featuring in two categories.

Now in its fifth year, the Clarivate Analytics analysis identifies influential researchers as determined by their global peers – those who have consistently won recognition in the form of high citation counts over a decade.

UQ Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Bronwyn Harch congratulated the highly cited researchers.

“This result underscores the value and impact of the University’s research, and it affirms that UQ continues to make its mark among the world’s best.”

More than 240 Australian-based researchers made the list, with UQ recording the second highest number of researchers in Australian universities.

UQ’s most influential scientists include Ove Hoegh-Guldberg, Peter J. Mumby, Hugh Possingham, Kendall N. Houk and Jian Yang, to name just a few.

David L. Paterson is cited twice, for his work in immunology and in pharmacology and toxicology.

Those making the list cover fields as diverse as agricultural, plant and animal sciences; medicine; chemistry; environment and ecology; chemistry; social science; biology; and psychology.

Clarivate Analytics Scientific and Academic Research group CEO Annette Thomas said making the list was a significant achievement.

“The Highly Cited Researchers 2018 list helps to identify the researchers who are having the greatest impact on the research community as measured by the rate at which their work is being cited by others,” she said.
