The Rockliff Government has been sitting on its hands for years when it comes to protecting the interests and welfare of our farmers.
The motion put forward today to address the regulatory failures within the animal processing sector is so important and must be acted on with relentless urgency.
There is absolutely no place for animal cruelty in Tasmania and our farmers are rightly devastated that their livelihoods and reputations have been put at risk.
After 10 years of this Liberal Government, which has incredibly included a rotation of four Primary Industries Ministers, our farmers have had a gutful of being let down and have lost trust with this government.
Farmers are under incredible pressure right now with rising input costs, interest rates and are already overwhelmed by the challenges brought upon by a dry season.
They don’t want more lip service – they want and deserve urgent action.
The Minister for Primary Industries, Jo Palmer, must take immediate action and address the regulatory failures within the animal processing sector and provide an update on these urgent matters on or before in the first Parliamentary sitting week of 2024.
