Earlier this month, the City of Launceston voted to transfer ownership of UTAS Stadium to the State Government management authority Stadiums Tasmania.
The transfer will be concluded once several criteria are met, including the consideration of any objections to the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the negotiation of a term sheet with Stadiums Tasmania.
The term sheet will go before Councillors at the City of Launceston for a final decision at a future date.
While the City of Launceston’s investment in, and management of, the stadium has resulted in significant benefits to the Northern Tasmanian community, it is unusual in a modern context for a local Council in Australia to own and operate a venue like UTAS Stadium.
The City of Launceston understands that the Northern Tasmanian community has many questions about the transfer.
