Virtual tours are now available for 33 of V/Line’s busiest stations, supporting interactive journey planning and wayfinding for passengers before they travel.
Passengers can explore online to identify key areas of a station, such as ticket offices, myki machines, Parkiteer cages and replacement coach bays.
“The virtual tours use special recording and virtual reality technology to allow passengers to click or tap through high definition, 360-degree images of each station as if they were walking through it,” said Matt Grindrod, V/Line’s Digital Customer Experience and Ticketing Manager.
“We want passengers to feel comfortable and confident at every stage of their trip, which is why we’ve developed virtual tours to help passengers prepare,” he added.
Features include quick links that allow users to easily navigate each part of the station, and tools to show door widths and measure other distances.
This is especially useful for people to explore accessibility features at stations, such as parking, toilets, ramps, elevators and boarding assistance zones on platforms.
“Navigating your way around a new place can be daunting, especially when going to a large public space like a train station, so we can now encourage our passengers to give the virtual tours a go,” said Matt.
The virtual tours allow passengers of all abilities to explore stations in advance, helping to decrease anxiety and making new experiences more comfortable and easily navigated.
and are accessible through desktop computers and mobile devices. More locations will be added soon.
