In October last year, Rockhampton Regional Council teamed up with three local vets and national charity Paws for a Purpose, to deliver the annual voucher program for pet owners across the Region.
Known as ‘Vac and Chip’, the program offers eligible residents with discounted vaccinations and microchipping for their pet dogs.
Councillor for Planning and Regulation Grant Mathers said although the annual program is closing at the end of April, there is still time to apply.
“Once again, we have been incredibly proud to roll out this program for our community,” Cr Mathers said.
“If there are any pet owners out there who have not yet taken advantage of the program, I would encourage you to apply.
“Overall, the Vac and Chip is designed to give a helping hand to pet owners who are doing things a little tough.
“We know that many pet owners want to do what’s best for their dog but at times, covering the cost of vaccinations and microchipping can be a challenge.
“Vaccinations normally cost around $100, and puppies need three of those in their first four months, plus a booster every year thereafter.
“Microchipping is an additional cost to that again, so it’s easy to see why people struggle with these kinds of fees sometimes.
“Through the program, eligible residents are able to have their dogs vaccinated for $15 and microchipped for $10 – so that’s a huge subsidy.
“It’s our way of helping local residents give their pets the best possible care they need and I want to thank Paws for a Purpose for teaming up with Council again this year, and the local vet clinics who have come on board.”
Participating vets include:
- Torenbeek Veterinary Clinic;
- Alma Street Veterinary Hospital; and
- Capricorn Veterinary Clinic
