From December 17, 2021 personal visitors to Queensland prisons need to be vaccinated

From December 17, only people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can visit Queensland prisons.

The COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective and free and is the best way to protect, you and your family, the prisoners in our care and our officers against serious illness from COVID-19.

After December 17, you will need to provide us with proof you are fully vaccinated before you will be able to visit.

Who does this apply to?

This applies to personal visitors to any Queensland prison who are eligible for vaccination. At the moment, that is people 12 years or over.

What do I need to do?

If you haven’t done so already, get vaccinated as soon as possible. You can do this at a Queensland Health Clinic, your doctor or pharmacy, or at any of the many vaccination clinics around the State.

Each time you visit, be prepared to show proof of vaccination. There are a number of ways you can do this.

How do I show proof I’m fully vaccinated for COVID-19?

You can show proof of your vaccinations by showing us a printed copy of any one of these:

  1. Your COVID-19 vaccination appointment card (provided at Queensland Health vaccination locations)
  2. Your from your Medicare account via

    • If you can’t access these online, you can ask your doctor or vaccination provider to print them for you.

I’m not eligible for Medicare. What do I do?

You can show proof of vaccination with an official letter from your doctor or vaccine service provider.

You can also provide a statutory declaration with certificate or other documentation with COVID-19 vaccination details.

I’m not vaccinated. What do I do?

You’ll need to be fully vaccinated in order to visit Queensland prisons after December 17, 2021 and be able to provide us with proof.

If you don’t have proof you are fully vaccinated you won’t be able to visit prisons in Queensland after December 17.
