Variety Bash Helping Kids For 30 Years

The 30th annual Variety Bash Queensland will hit the road between August 28 and September 6.

Australia’s largest and longest running charity motoring event will kick off with the wackiest mix of road trippers you’ll ever see, departing Mackay on Wednesday 28th August, with over 3,500 kilometres ahead of them.

Over 100 pre-1989 vehicles and their colourful crews will hit the road, raising much needed funds to help Aussie kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have a disability. Since its inception in Australia, the Variety Bash has raised over $230 million nationally to give Aussie kids a fair go.

Originated by Dick Smith and touted as a drive in the outback with a few mates, this sentiment is still held today. The Variety Bash is not a race or rally and its main rule is to relax and have fun, all while raising money to support kids in need.

Throughout the ten-day adventure, Bashers (as they are affectionately known) will be stopping into remote schools and organisations to put smiles on kids’ faces. Participants get to see the direct impact of their fundraising efforts, with over $63,000 in educational, communication, health and mobility equipment granted to local kids, schools and organisations along the way.

Variety Queensland CEO Steve Wakerley said, “We are very excited to be celebrating our 30thAnniversary this year and kicking off in such a beautiful location at Mackay Breakwater. Variety has so many dedicated fundraisers in the area and we have been able to support many local kids, schools and organisations over the years. One of these grants last year was a new Sunshine Coach for Mackay District Special School, so it’s fantastic to see them making the most of external learning opportunities with the addition of this bus.”

Rallying behind the intrinsic Aussie value of a ‘fair go’ are Presenting Sponsor, Blue Dog Training, along with Get Tools Direct, MM Electrical, Mackay Regional Council, Rockhampton Regional Council and Seeley International who have all come on board to support the iconic charity event.

They’ll travel through: Mackay, Clarke Creek, St Lawrence, Byfield, Rockhampton, Bauhinia, Springsure, Arcadia Valley, Taroom, Coalstoun Lakes, Rainbow Beach, Oakey, Wheatvale, Mt Malakoff, Kyogle, Byron Bay and finish on the Gold Coast!
