Today at , the Minister for Creative Industries Steve Dimopoulos announced Originate Games—a dynamic new initiative that will champion Victorian game developers who have projects in early-stage development.
Originate Games is designed to generate Victorian IP from emerging creatives, supporting new voices to experiment with innovation and untapped digital gaming experiences.
The program will support participants’ digital games from early concept towards the goal of execution and release.
Game developers will be able to apply for grants up to $50,000 to support the direct development costs for their project.
Industry experts will also be on board to mentor participants, providing invaluable insight and strategic advice on how to elevate their game.

Originate Games expands on VicScreen’s existing Originate Features program—a development and production initiative which is amplifying the work of diverse screen writers.
VicScreen has committed $750,000 in funding to establish the inaugural Originate Games program over three years.
CEO of VicScreen, Caroline Pitcher said, “Originate Games will champion our homegrown talent, backing them to generate the world-leading and compelling content which Melbourne’s digital games sector is famous for.”
