Scott Boland will make his first appearance for the season in the Dean Jones Trophy in Thursday’s crucial One-Day clash against Tasmania at Ninja Stadium in Tasmania.
Boland is one of two international stars to be added to the side, with Todd Murphy making his navy-blue return following Australia’s successful Test series against Sri Lanka last week.
Joining Boland and Murphy is fellow pace option, Mitch Perry, who is set to play his first match since December’s five-wicket haul against Queensland at the MCG. Perry replaces Fergus O’Neill, who is being rested.
Meanwhile, Harry Dixon continues his week to remember, named in the squad with a chance to make his One-Day debut for Victoria in the same week as his four-day debut.
Dixon put on the baggy blue for the first time on Saturday and made an immediate impact, scoring a memorable half-century that included seven fours and three huge sixes.
Victoria will be chasing their second-consecutive One Day Cup win, having last played against Western Australia almost three-months ago.
Thursday shapes as a must-win game for the second-placed Victorians, with just two matches remaining in the One Day Cup home and away season.
“We’re excited for the challenge,” said experienced batsman, Peter Handscomb, who scored a fighting 93 runs during yesterday’s chase in the Sheffield Shield.
“It’s a different game, with a different ball, so we’re going to attack the match with a fresh mind and put our best foot forward in another competition we’re doing well in, sitting second.
“We’re going to take confidence into it and focus on playing to our strengths and just enjoy the challenge and the opportunity to represent Victoria.”
Victoria faces Tasmania on Thursday, February 13 from 2:00 PM AEDT with the match to be streamed on cricket.com.au and Kayo Sports.
