Campaspe Shire Council adopted the Victoria Park and Scenic Trail Masterplan at last night’s Council meeting.

Campaspe Shire Mayor, Cr Rob Amos said that information gathered from key user groups as well as the wider community had been used to inform and design the Masterplan.

“Council has undertaken extensive community consultation over the last 14 months, taking into consideration the community aspirations and initiatives identified throughout the engagement process.”

“We want the area to become not only a major sporting precinct, but also a place for people to enjoy being active through cycling, walking and recreational activities.

Points of interest within the master plan include:

  • Scenic Drive will be renamed Scenic Trail for pedestrian and cycling only, encouraging passive recreation.
  • Protection of the natural environment, particularly to the west of the Dhungala Bridge.
  • Establishment of a cultural trail in collaboration with Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation
  • Enhanced pedestrian and cycling connectivity between the Port of Echuca, Victoria Park Sporting Precinct, boat ramp, Scenic Trail and Crofton Street.
  • Upgrades to the Victoria Park Sporting Precinct including construction of a new multi-purpose facility, a kickabout area for junior sports, a netball changeroom and amenity facility, a new playground and formal car parking, as well as improvements to existing oval including turf and irrigation.
  • New public toilets to the east of Victoria Park Sporting Precinct.
  • Victoria Park boat ramp upgrades and surrounding infrastructure, including improvements to the boat ramp and retaining walls, improved seating/ picnic facilities, new toilet facilities, storage area for the Inland Outrigger Canoe club and an accessible public pontoon.
  • Investigation of opportunities to provide two-way access and lighting for the boat ramp.

“This is an exciting step in progressing redevelopment of Victoria Park and Scenic Trail into a fantastic multi-use facility and open space that is inclusive, accessible and actively used, meeting the needs for today and the future.

“Council will bring to life the community vision, which is for Victoria Park and Scenic Trail to become a fabulous open space where the community can enjoy sporting and recreation, as well as cultural heritage and the natural environment. This will be a superb place for activity, but also for relaxation and connection with nature.”
