The Victoria Country Cricket League men’s team has tasted success at the Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships.

After finishing second in 2019, the Victorian Country Cricket League was able to defeat Western Australia Country in the 2020 Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships Men’s Division final in Toowoomba.

The Australian Country Cricket Championships provide a breeding ground for Australian cricket’s next generation of stars but also demonstrates the vital role cricket plays in community development in our regions.

The Men’s team had a slow start to the championships losing their first match to Western Australia but ended the round games with eight wins and two losses to finish on top of the ladder and qualify for the grand final against Western Australia.

In the grand final Victorian Country won the toss and elected to bat posting a competitive 194 thanks to a strong middle order performance with Lee Stockdale top scoring with 59.

In a rain affected chase this proved to be too much for Western Australia, and the Victorian Country Men’s team won by 40 runs.

The Victorian Country Women’s team finished fifth with three wins and four losses after their round matches. Though the team put is some strong performances, beating the eventual champions East Asia Pacific twice during their round matches.

The Victorian Country Cricket League’s teams were also well represented during the presentation night with Jack Wrigglesworth taking out the Bill O’Reilly award for the Best Bowler of the Championships and Emma Lynch winning the Women’s Wicketkeeper of the Championships award.

Six players were also selected into the Australian Country XII, with Teagan Parker and Emma Lynch selected in the Women’s Australia Country XII and Jordan Moran, Nathan Walsh, Lee Stockdale and Jack Wrigglesworth selected in the Men’s Australia Country XII.

Men’s Coach Mark Ridgway and Team Manager Travis Harling were also recognised as the Men’s Australia Country XII coach and team manager.
