For the first time in history, Victoria is set to host a day-night Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as part of Cricket Australia’s schedule for the international summer.
From January 30 to February 2, Australia will host England in the Women’s Ashes in a pink-ball Test at the MCG as well as the annual Boxing Day Test as Australia’s men’s side play India in the third Test of the Border-Gavasker Trophy.
Australia’s women’s side will also host England in an ODI at the CitiPower Centre as a part of the Ashes, while the men will play an ODI against Pakistan at the MCG on the Monday before the Melbourne Cup.
Cricket Victoria Chief Executive Officer, Nick Cummins, said:
“Victorian cricket fans have a lot to look forward to next summer.”
“The Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India is always hotly-contested and this year’s Boxing Day Test will be no different.
“We’re looking forward to what will be a fascinating Women’s Ashes campaign on home soil. Having a women’s day/night Ashes Test at the MCG is a milestone and fantastic opportunity for Victorians to see the best team in the world in action against our arch rivals.
“We’re also really pleased to see the CitiPower Centre hosting women’s international cricket again in January with an Ashes One-Day International.
“Together with packed WBBL and BBL seasons and a full domestic schedule, next summer has something for everyone.”
