Victoria University (VU) has climbed to 7th in the world in the 2022 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments.
VU has experienced a meteoric rise in the prestigious rankings with its sport program rising from 21st in 2017, to the top 10 in 2020 and now, second in Australia.
VU Institute of Health and Sport Director, Professor Alex Parker said this announcement is fantastic global recognition.
“Our position in the global rankings is a testament to the world-leading courses in sport and exercise science, exercise rehabilitation, physical education, sport management, and outdoor recreation and fitness – not to mention our outstanding research program,” Professor Parker said.
“We have recently become an official which is just one of many examples of our research expertise having real impact on the world stage.
VU Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker said being number seven in the world was further validation of the University’s reputation in sport teaching and research.
“The top 20 sports universities in the world are in Europe, North America and Australia – and VU is one of them,” Professor Shoemaker said.
What is fascinating is both the breadth and depth of this achievement, which our tremendous staff and research students are central to. The ranked universities are listed based on the measurements of publication, citation, citations per publication, top 25 per cent journals publications, and publications involving internationally collaborations.
