The Victorian Government has changed the permit requirements for clearing vegetation near your home.
Clearing trees, bushes and other plants nears your home is a common activity in many parts of Point Lonsdale and Queenscliffe. But depending on where the vegetation is located, you made need a permit to remove it.
Recently, the Victorian Government has changed to rules around when you need to get a permit to clear vegetation near your home.
While previously property owners could clear vegetation within 10 or 30 metres of their home without needing a permit, this rule has changed. This exemption now only applies to buildings located in an area that is designated as a bushfire prone area under the Building Act 1993 and that are used for accommodation, such as a house. Because most homes within the Borough are not located in a bushfire prone area, this means some vegetation-clearing activities will now need a permit.
