Science is set to energise and engage minds through virtual and augmented reality sessions at Isaac Libraries this August 12-16.
Buckle up and get ready to dive into the exciting world of immersive technologies as part of ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Science Week is Australia’s annual opportunity to discuss the hot topics, do science and celebrate its cultural and economic impact on society.
Mayor Anne Baker said science touches every aspect of our lives and encouraged people of all ages to take part in Isaac Libraries’ activities.
“Whether it’s smartphones to the technologies that enable us to explore the world around us,” she said.
“We’re also driven to innovation in our fast-changing global economy; we are truly helping to energise the world through the power of science.
“We’re exceptionally grateful for the $10,000 Advance Queensland Engaging Science Grant provided by the Queensland Government to showcase our ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Science Week activities in Clermont, Dysart and Moranbah.
“Here’s your chance to learn about 360 photos and videos, virtual reality and augmented reality. Those who attend will be transported into a computer-generated world, as well as be amazed as digital animals start running around the room.”
Minister for Science Leeanne Enoch said Council’s Think Digital program is one of 15 projects, involving scientists, researchers, schools and community organisations, were benefiting from funding under the latest round.
“These grants are about encouraging more people to get involved in science and expanding the reach of science across Queensland,” Ms Enoch said.
“They also help further the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment towards supporting STEM and the jobs opportunities in this sector.
“We know that employment in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) is growing two times faster than other occupations, and we are committed to embracing these opportunities.”
First held in 1997, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Science Week has become one of Australia’s largest festivals. Last year saw a staggering 1.2 million people participate in over 2100 events and activities.
Think Digital at Isaac Libraries for ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Science Week is supported by an Advance Queensland Engaging Science Grant provided by the Queensland Government.
