Visits cancelled at Arthur Gorrie and Brisbane Correctional Centre

After consultation with Queensland Health regarding community cases of COVID-19 in Queensland, visits have been cancelled in some South East Queensland prisons for today.

Under the restrictions, personal visits have been cancelled for Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre and Brisbane Correctional Centre.

At this stage all other correctional centres are operating personal visits as normal.

Virtual personal visits remain available.

The restrictions will be reviewed as soon as Queensland Health indicates it is safe to do so.

In line with the current directive of Queensland Health any person entering a correctional facility in Queensland over the age of 16 MUST be fully vaccinated and able to show the required proof of vaccination.

Additionally, any person visiting or entering a correctional facility must wear a mask.

We acknowledge the impact of cancellation of visits on prisoners and their families, and we appreciate your patience.

Prisoners and officers in Queensland prisons have been offered COVID-19 vaccinations, with very high uptake.

Queensland Health has administered more than 8000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to prisoners across the State to date, and many prisoners are now fully vaccinated.

Our officers have adhered to the CHO directive and been supported to get vaccinations.

We encourage family members to get vaccinated as soon as they can if they are eligible to do so, present yourself for a booster.

Vaccinations will play an important role in keeping our centres COVID-free and preventing future lockdowns.
