Get into the festive spirit and help wrap food hampers bound for families and the elderly who might otherwise go without this Christmas.
Each year, the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Appeal funds food hampers for people in the community who need a helping hand during the festive period.
Cairns Mayor Bob Manning urged the community to get involved this year by making the hampers a little more festive.
“Bring a roll of wrapping paper and help us wrap 700 food hampers before they get distributed to those in need,” Cr Manning said.
“Getting a hamper can make all the difference to someone, it shows them that they are part of a caring community that values them.
“Receiving a hamper wrapped in Christmas paper just makes it that little bit more special.”
Hampers are being wrapped at the Fred Moule Pavilion, Cairns Showgrounds, between 10am and 2pm on Tuesday 14 December.
“Pop in 15 minutes or an hour, any help will be greatly appreciated,” Cr Manning said.
Entry to the Cairns Showgrounds is through Gate 4 on Severin St; follow the road to Fred Moule Pavilion and park at the rear of the pavilion.
Volunteers are required to check in via the Check In QLD app on arrival.
