Move over Kochie – the search for the Face of Cairns News has begun.
More than 100 aspiring news readers sat in the news chair at the Cairns Show to have their shot at becoming Face of Cairns News and now a shortlist of 17 will vie for the top title.
The news reader who receives the most “Likes” on Council’s Facebook will receive a prize pack worth more than $1000, including a Go Pro Hero 7 and season family pass to the Cairns Taipans.
Mayor Bob Manning said the activity was hugely popular and would help in delivering Council messages in the future.
“This campaign provided a fantastic activity for families to get involved in at the Cairns Show, however more importantly it will help spread important messages to our community over the coming months,” Cr Manning said.
“Our news readers covered issues such as how to prepare for cyclone season, caring for your pets, and even promoted upcoming events such as Seniors’ Week and the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.”
“We were over whelmed with the number of people who gave it a go, both in numbers and also the talent out there was great to see. There are certainly some news presenters in waiting amonst the entrants we have shortlisted.”

Voting ends at 5pm on August 30.
