Housing Minister Peter Tinley today congratulated the winners and finalists at the Housing Industry Association CSR Western Australian Housing Awards ceremony.
Addressing guests at one of the building industry’s most prestigious events, the Minister noted the range of initiatives introduced by the McGowan Government to stimulate supply and demand for new affordable housing and support the housing construction sector.
The 2019 HIA CSR WA Housing Awards showcase and recognise excellence in construction, design, innovation, efficiency and technology.
Zorzi won the major award – the 2019 HIA CSR WA ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ of the Year, for a project in Mount Pleasant. The same project also won the Custom Built ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ award. Other award category winners included:
- Affordable Housing – ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾buyers Centre, for a project in Baldivis;
- Apartment Complex – Jaxon Construction, for a project in Mount Pleasant;
- Golden Key Award for WA Display ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ of the Year – Novus ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s, for the Mandalay display home in Dianella; and
- Regional ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾, Framed Housing and Liveable ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ – Karamfiles Builders for a project in Deanmill.
The Department of Communities and HIA have a strong working relationship, underpinned by HIA’s participation in the Housing Industry Forecasting Group (HIFG) which provides independent commentary on the WA housing sector.

As stated by Housing Minister Peter Tinley:
“The McGowan Government is proud of its strong relationship with HIA and continues to support the building industry through a range of initiatives.
“The Affordable Housing Action Plan 2017-18 to 2019-20 will see the delivery of 7,700 affordable homes and investment in construction that will create and support almost 6,000 jobs and generate an estimated $2.3 billion in economic activity.
“A short while ago we launched the Action Plan for Planning Reform report which will make it easier to achieve vibrant, sustainable and well-connected communities.
“We also recently increased Keystart’s funding by $421 million – which has potential to support an extra 1,100 home loans – and increased Keystart’s income eligibility limits to make an additional 500 to 600 building starts possible and allow more Western Australians to access low deposit home loans.
“These initiatives are designed to strengthen our communities, and the WA economy.
“But we cannot do it alone and rely on the strong partnerships we have with the housing and construction sector industries.
“They are vital in tackling WA’s affordable housing challenges.”
