Western Australian cricket fans are urged to turn out in force for today’s history making inaugural day-night Test to help shore up Perth’s claim for regular, top-level Test cricket at Optus Stadium.
Australia and New Zealand will reignite the Trans-Tasman rivalry this afternoon – with fans able to beat the heat with a $20 ‘twilight ticket’ and enjoy access to the Sundowner Bar for the last two sessions of each day.
With Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane locked in a three-way battle to host the two available matches in next year’s Australia-India Test series, fans are urged to show their appetite for local Test cricket by turning out in high numbers.
The State Government is focused on building on the success of the 2019 sporting calendar – which included, among many others, Manchester United, State of Origin II and the Bledisloe Cup.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:
“Perth’s first pink ball Test represents a historic day for WA cricket and we call upon fans to get out to Optus Stadium and enjoy the match.
“With $20 after work tickets available, there’s a great opportunity for people to get down to the ground in the afternoon for the last couple of sessions.
“We are keen to show the Australian cricket community that Perth should have local, top-level Test cricket every year, and we call upon fans to support us.”
As stated by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:
“Perth is the obvious place for a Test against India next year, we are the closest to India, we are mid-way between the Indian and east coast time zones, and India is one of our fastest growing visitor markets.
“We need West Aussies to get along to the Test and show Cricket Australia the return they get for using the best stadium in the nation.
“With temperatures expected to soar, fans will be able to enjoy plenty of shaded seating, free water and complimentary sunscreen at Optus Stadium.
“Ticket sales for the match have been strong, but many good seats are still available for all days and sessions. So get in quick.”
