  • McGowan Government supports Perth Chinese New Year Fair

Western Australians today join millions around the world in welcoming in the Chinese Lunar New Year.

Celebrations will be held across the State, with lion dancing and firecrackers heralding the start of the Year of the Rabbit.

The annual Perth Chinese New Year Fair will return to Northbridge on Sunday 29 January and feature entertainment, cultural performances and food stalls.

Hosted by the Chung Wah Association, this major festival is a highlight of our cultural calendar and will attract thousands from across the community.

The McGowan Government is proud to support the Perth Chinese New Year Fair with $55,000 in funding through Lotterywest and the Office of Multicultural Interests.

The Lunar New Year is being celebrated in many Asian countries including Korea, Tibet, and Singapore.

The Chinese New Year is linked to the beginning of the northern Spring and is also the start of a new sign in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.

The rabbit is thought to be the luckiest out of all twelve animals in the zodiac, and the Year of the Rabbit is said to bring peace and prosperity.
