Close to 70 per cent of Western Australians support State Government investment in major entertainment acts, such as Coldplay, to attract visitors to WA and create jobs and economic diversity, a survey commissioned by Tourism Council WA has revealed.
Tourism Council WA estimates the two Coldplay concerts in Perth will:
- Bring 40,000 out-of-State visitors to WA who will stay an average of four nights each.
- Inject $68 million of visitor expenditure into the WA economy.
- Create 495 full-time equivalent jobs for Western Australians.
The survey of the Western Australian public showed 69 per cent of respondents agreed with State Government investment in major events like the Coldplay concerts, with 21 per cent neutral and 11 per cent disagreeing.
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall welcomed the State Government’s feat of securing the band’s only two Australian concerts in Perth.
“The State Government attracting major entertainment acts is fantastic for the tourism industry, and will create jobs in Perth and regional WA,” Mr Hall said.
Mr Hall said the expected number of out-of-state visitors expected for the concerts was more than the number of visitors WA welcomed each year from Japan, Indonesia, India, and Germany pre-COVID.
“I would encourage airlines to make more affordable seats available for the rapid influx of interstate travellers attending the concerts,” he said.
