The festive season is meant to be a joyous time, however for some families, it can be extremely difficult with all the addedpressures the cost of Christmas brings.

REIWA CEO Neville Pozzi said with more than 14,000West Aussies expected to turn to the Salvos for assistance, this holiday seasonwas a better time than any to dig deep and help those who need it most.

Its been a challenging two years to say the least, whichis why we are strongly encouraging all West Australians to get behind the greatwork the Salvos do on a daily basis to help those who are most vulnerable inour community, Mr Pozzi said.

The Salvation ArmyPublic Relations Secretary Warren Palmer said this year, the Salvos anticipate the needs of West Aussies at Christmas will reach a new peak under thepressure of the pandemic.

Increased isolation, financial stress and mental health impacts ofCOVID-19 this year will continue to exacerbate other pre-existing issues. TheSalvos want to leave no one in need this Christmas, and we need the generosityof the community to once again partner with us in support of locals doing itreally tough.

Christmas offers us a time to reflect and connectwith one another and celebrate the joy of community. This connection will bemore important than ever this year, so we encourage us all to look out for eachother, check in on family and embrace the true meaning of Christmas, Mr Palmer said.

How to donate

Mr Pozzi said the ChristmasAppeal will be accepting physical donations this year after going online in2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but are always welcome.

From 15 November to 13December, I encourage you to visit one of the across Perth, and regionally, to donateunwrapped gifts or non-perishable food items, and meet the REIWA agents who arecommitted to bringing Christmas joy to those in need.

As we have seen in theeight years of partnering with the Salvos for this initiative, a littlegenerosity can go a long way in bringing joy to these families at Christmastime, Mr Pozzi said.
