Relay For Life is more than an event; it’s a powerful celebration of resilience, remembrance, and the fight against cancer. This year, thousands of West Australians united in our Bunbury, UWA and West Coast Relay For Life events to support cancer research and provide vital services for West Australians impacted by cancer.
Bunbury: A Community united
On Saturday, 2 November, the Bunbury community gathered at Payne Park in East Bunbury for an unforgettable Relay for Life event. With over 400 participants, the event raised almost $200,000, demonstrating the power of community in the fight against cancer.
The 24-hour relay was brimming with energy, featuring vibrant costumes, creatively decorated tents, and themed laps that kept spirits high throughout the event.
West Coast: A record-breaking effort
Relay For Life West Coast, held at HBF Arena, was nothing short of remarkable. Over 1,000 participants from 73 teams, including eight schools, came together to raise an incredible $320,000-the second-highest fundraising amount among all Relay For Life events across Australia this year.
The warm and heartfelt atmosphere of the event underscored the dedication and generosity of everyone involved. From schools to local groups, the West Coast Relay demonstrated how collective action can drive significant impact for cancer patients and their families.
UWA: Students making a difference
The University of Western Australia (UWA) hosted its Relay For Life on Saturday, 5 October, at Riley Oval, where over 500 students from 44 teams raised an almost $60,000
This event was packed with unique activities, including a petting zoo, silent disco, and the always-popular onesie lap. The lively and inclusive atmosphere brought students together in a shared mission to celebrate, remember and fightback against cancer
None of these events would have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the committees, volunteers, and participants who brought them to life. From planning and organising, to running laps and raising funds, their combined efforts have made a lasting impact in the fight against cancer.
In total, the three West Australian Relay For Life events raised over $550,000, a testament to the generosity and spirit of our WA community. These funds will support vital cancer research and provide services to those who need them most.
Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, or donated. Together, we’re making strides against cancer, proving hope and determination can light the way forward.
