- Event linked to WA Government Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy
The McGowan Government will lead a strong local sector presence at AusMedtech 2023, with Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson joined by seven local medtech companies at the event.
The AusMedtech conference, which starts today in Adelaide, is a forum for Australian and international industry leaders responsible for development, manufacturing and distribution of new medical technologies. AusMedtech 2023 will enable Western Australian companies to share advancements, insights and best practice with counterparts and potential partners from key national and global markets.
Minister Dawson will speak at AusMedtech on the McGowan Government’s commitment to propel the new technologies that are transforming the health and medical sector, both locally and nationwide, during a panel session with South Australia’s Chief Scientist, Professor Caroline McMillen.
The WA delegation to AusMedtech, supported by the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, builds on momentum from the successful AusBiotech 2023 Conference in Perth last year.
Supporting advancements within the Health and Medical Life Sciences sector is an important element of the McGowan Government’s broader commitment to innovation, and is a means to diversify the State’s economy, strengthen emerging industries and create employment opportunities.
The McGowan Government’s commitment to innovation has been further bolstered with the announcement of an additional $9.1 million over two years to the New Industries Fund 2021-25. This will result in $8.725 million per year for the next two years to foster innovation in the State, more than doubling the amounts allocated in 2023/24 and 2024/25.
The seven companies joining Minister Dawson include:
- GeneS Pty Ltd;
- Metabolic Health Solutions;
- OncoRes Medical;
- Alcolizer Technology;
- Biotome Pty Ltd;
- Cortical Dynamics; and
- Reliis Ltd
As stated by Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson:
“Supporting our growing health and medical life sciences industry is part of the McGowan Government’s strategy to diversify our economy, attract investment and create local jobs.
“WA is already recognised as an important player in health and medical life sciences, and our continued support will firmly establish the State as a global hub for digital health, medical technology (medtech), biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and health and wellness products in the future.
“This commitment to supporting life-changing medical technologies will also enable millions of people to live longer, healthier, and lead more productive and rewarding lives.”
