- New direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Perth now on sale
- First-ever service on Vietnam Airlines to cement South East Asia links between Vietnam and WA
- Three flights a week will bring nearly 43,000 inbound visitors to WA each year
- An outcome of the Cook Government’s representations in Vietnam to secure direct flights
- Supported by the WA Government in partnership with Perth Airport
Tickets are now on sale for new direct Vietnam Airlines flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Perth, which will launch in December 2023.
The direct service will open up a brand-new tourism market and bring nearly 43,000 visitors each year to Perth, and further strengthen Western Australia’s airlinks within South East Asia.
From 7 December 2023, Vietnam Airline’s Boeing 787 aircraft will depart Tan Son Nhat Airport for Perth International Airport three times a week.
The welcomed announcement follows the-then WA Tourism Minister’s mission to Vietnam earlier this year to meet with representatives from a number of Vietnamese airlines to discuss securing direct flights to WA.
The carrier’s first ever service to Perth, supported by the State Government in partnership with Perth Airport, further strengthens WA’s connections with Vietnam.
It builds on the Cook Government’s efforts to bolster business opportunities and partnerships between WA and Vietnam following the opening of its new Invest and Trade WA office in Ho Chi Minh City in March this year.
Vietnam is Western Australia’s 14th largest trading partner, with total trade of $2.4 billion in 2022-23.
Vietnam is an emerging visitor market, with 10,000 visitors travelling to our State for the year ending March 2023, many of whom come to holiday or visit friends and family.
Since border restrictions lifted post-pandemic, the WA Government has now secured 15 new or returning direct aviation connections for WA, including new flights between Perth and Auckland, Jakarta, Rome and Tokyo.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
“Securing this new direct flight between Vietnam and Perth opens up an abundance of opportunities between the two destinations and represents a whole new inbound visitor market for Western Australia’s industry, tourism and hospitality sectors supporting jobs and boosting the economy.
“Today’s announcement further cements our important airlinks within the South East Asia region, who we have a strong relationship and track record with, and my Government is very proud of this progress and the growing opportunities into the future.
“Direct aviation links like these benefit our State, producers and businesses as they present additional avenues to expand trade opportunities for fresh produce exports and other goods to be efficiently transported.
“We have a growing Western Australian-Vietnamese community in our State, which has contributed to our social, economic and cultural development and this announcement will provide better direct connections for the community whether it be for leisure, business or studying opportunities.”
As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:
“We’re very excited to announce this new service and showcase everything our State has to offer to more visitors from Vietnam.
“Vietnam is becoming an emerging tourism market for Western Australia, with 10,000 visitors travelling into our State for the year up until March 2023, and these new flights will further bolster that with a further 43,000 people able to come in each year.
“With flights starting in December, just in time for the peak summer season, I’m sure this route will be very popular, and helps affirm our status as the Western Gateway to Australia.”
